What We Believe

The Bible... is the true word of God and without error in all it teaches.  (See 2 Timothy 3:15-17.)

The true God... is the God who reveals himself in the Bible- the Triune God:  Father, Son and Holy Spirit. (See Matthew 28:19, Deuteronomy 6:4, John 20:28, Acts 5:3-4)

The Ten Commandments... (Exodus 20:1-17) The Commandments show us God's holy will for how we should live, but they can't make us right with God, because we can't keep them the way they should be kept.  Instead, they show us how we have sinned, and deserved God's anger and punishment.  (See Romans 3:20,23.)

Jesus, the Son of God... is true God, along with the Father and the Holy Spirit.  He became true man, born of a human mother, Mary, while she was still a virgin.  (Matthew 1:18-25)  He lived a life of perfect love, without sinning- the kind of life God's Commandments demanded, but we had failed to live.  (Hebrews 4:14-15)  He then laid down that life in our place, as a sacrifice to pay for our  sins, by letting men falsely accuse him, mock him and beat him, and nail him to a cross, where he died.  (1 Peter 1:24)  But he rose again from the dead.  (1 Corinthians 15:1-11)  Then he visibly ascended into heaven, and now he rules over all things.  He will visibly come down to earth again on the last day as the judge of all people.

How we are right with God... is not by works we must do to earn it.  Rather, all who repent of their sins and trust in Jesus have the forgiveness of all their sins as a free gift from God, and shall have eternal life in heaven.   As the Bible tells us in John 3:16, "God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish, but have eternal life." (NIV)  (See also Mark 16:16; Ephesians 2:8-9; Luke 24:47; 1 John 1:8-2:1)

The Christian life... When God brings people to trust in Jesus, he gives them a new heart that loves God and gladly follows his commands.  God's word directs and encourages Christians in this new life.  But Christians living in this world still struggle with temptation, and often stumble into sins.  The way they are right with God is by having the forgiveness of all their sins through Jesus, not by reaching perfection in this life.  (See Ephesians 4:20-31; Luke 11:4; 1 John 1:8-2:1)
